All the great historians,
Experts in the life of Shakespeare,
Will in all seriousness nod and say,
That he was actually born in 1564,
In the month of April on the 23rd day.
Then they will shake their heads yet again,
As the winters change to summer and rain.
The historians will now with sad faces say,
That the great bard of Stratford-on-Avon,
Left the world in 1616 in April on the 23rd day.
The same day that William was born,
Was all the same day he was truly gone.
You may say that this is a jest,
Let the old scholar have his rest.
Shakespeare would have written a sonnet and a ditty,
That life can be ironic, so do not feel sadness or pity.
William wrote the best lines, stanzas, and every verse,
That every actor spouted on stage for better or worse.
Shakespeare saw the humor and the tragedy of life,
He saw his character in everyone, even his loving wife.
The literary genius was filled with humor and wit,
He could create a believable hero, a villain, and a twit.
Shakespeare wove the stories that he formed into plays,
With messages and great dialogue that always stays.
He could write stories about his society,
About Lords and Ladies sitting at high teas.
Shakespeare revealed the best and the worst,
He exposed the evils, the blessed and the cursed.
This literary genius so shrouded in mystery and gloom,
Was the toast of the Elizabethan period in every room.
The greatest plays and characters were all so well-drawn,
They are featured in the plays as King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, and pawn.
If there ever was a play so rich in drama, intrigue, romance, and fear,
It was in every one of the plays of the great playwright William Shakespeare.
On the 23rd of April, we will remember William Shakespeare,
From the day that he was born and the day he left the stage,
Leaving behind plays filled with powerful stories on every page.
William Shakespeare's life was a comedy of terrors,
Filled with so much perfection with no room for errors.
