Do You Choose Your Topics or Write About Everything?
Writing Prompt: What in your opinion will help you to grow as a writer?
Most writers like to choose the topics that they are interested in and then proceed to write their stories. I was like all those writers, who like to choose their topics and their genres and then write my stories, articles, and poems.
Over the years I have found that it was quite restrictive as I was interested in so many things in life. I now believe in 360-degree writing and thinking. This means that I read up on almost every topic in whatever genre I can find and then proceed to write my pieces based on them.
I have reached that point in my life as a writer, that I am not selective in my topics, as long as they are positive and will not cause harm to anyone. I am still ignorant of so many topics in life. Life is all about studying about life and we keep learning as we move ahead. Similarly, as a writer, I am always discovering new perspectives on topics. Which is so much fun. I will always put my hand up and admit, I will not be able to write about a particular topic, if I do not have the facts related to it. However, I will eventually write about the topic, even if it is not by choice, as every topic needs a voice.
I believe that as writers, we need to write about life and all that it presents and we should not pick and choose topics. Write about everything or learn more about it and then write your story. This is in my opinion the only way to evolve as a writer. What do you think and should you only focus on those topics you are interested in life?
