Episode 7: High Demand for the Book Deal Generator
The Publish and Die Protocol-Fiction Series
Grandpa’s book, “The Captive Heiress” goes through the Million Dollar Book Deal Generator, and within a week it is on the Bestseller list all over the world.
There were a number of book awards that would be awarded to Joseph Foxxen posthumously. It was for one of these numerous awards to which grandma was invited. Doris Foxxen was not used to being in the spotlight. She preferred to stay in the background at all family gatherings, making certain that everyone was eating well and enjoying themselves. Richard’s sister Mary could not attend the award ceremony and neither could his younger brother David, who was married and working in Canada as an Architect.
Doris and Joseph met over fifty years ago when he walked into a department store for a novel, the rare first print of The Manchurian Candidate by Richard Condon. It was a case of love at first sight. The couple got married and had four children, two sons, and two daughters.
Richard took his grandmother Doris, who was now eighty years old for the award’s ceremony.
At the ceremony, an accident occurred, which would alter the course of Richard’s life and that of his family.
As Richard took his Grandmother up the stairs, she slipped, lost her balance, and fell to the floor.
Richard tried to save her, but could not stop her from hitting her head on the side of the wooden railing.
There was a disturbance, the ceremony was delayed. It seemed that Richard’s Grandmother was okay as she dusted herself and walked up to receive the award.
The crowds cheered.
Richard was happy that his grandmother was a tough cookie.
It was only later that day that things seemed different.
Richard’s Grandmother started to recall memories of her past. She started to remember who she really was.
“Richard, do you remember the story of the Heiress who was never found?”, asked Doris.
“Yes, I remember that story. Grandfather would always talk to us about the story. He said that he had always hoped that Grandmother had a good memory.”
“That’s true, son. But, do you also remember that he would prepare herbal teas for me to aid my memory.”
“Yes, but there were also rumours that there were people who were out to kill the heiress, the powerful Coraban crime family who had a vendetta against the Southerland family, after a family feud.”
“Yes, yes, I remember that too.”
“But, how did the feud between the two families start?”, asked Richard.
“It was when the teenager Darren Southerland and Tony Coraban went swimming and Tony drowned. The Coraban family blamed Darren Southerland’s family for the death.”
“Darren had a sister, Patricia. Darren died under mysterious circumstances from drug overdoes in his hotel. The teenager never did drugs. His sister Patricia, the only surviving heir, disappeared soon after and was never found.”
“Grandma, do you remember where you got that scar on your head?”
“No, I could never recall ever having an injury on my head, except for this evening at the awards ceremony,” said Grandma nursing the bruise she got on her head after her fall that evening.
“Perhaps Grandpa had found you and discovered that you had lost your memory, after a head injury.”
“He didn’t take me back to my home, for fear of my life and the Coraban family, who were out to avenge the death of Tony Coraban.”
“So, if the money is still unclaimed, you can reveal who you are and claim the money.”
“Yes, but with DNA tests today, you can be sure that you are the Heiress, especially since you now recall your real identity.”
“I’ll need to contact the solicitors and get your DNA tested Gran so that we are sure before we go ahead,” said Richard.
“But, what about the Coraban family, they were a very large family after all?”
“There may not be anyone left from the Coraban family today after sixty years with vengeance on their minds.”
“Do you remember what happened exactly, Grandma?”
“It is all coming back to me, but pretty slowly. I now recall my Uncle Sid and Felix taking me away from the family home to a place in the city, where they had taken a flat for me to stay after my brother Darren died. They were sure that the Coraban family were coming for me.”
“Did they have any children?”
“Hard to say, it was over sixty years ago now. Perhaps we need to check the public records and phone directories.”
Richard went to his laptop and did a quick search on the web.
“Grandma, over here it says that both Coraban brothers died in a car crash over sixty years ago.”
“They didn’t drink as far as I remember,” said Grandma
“Maybe it wasn’t an accident?” said Richard.
Richard looked back at his laptop screen and saw another link to an article on the missing heiress, Patricia Southerland. He was shocked because his grandma bore an uncanny resemblance to the young woman in the black and white photos on the web, which were featured in the newspaper articles. He looked at the photos of his grandparents on the wall and on the mantle-piece and knew that she was indeed the Heiress.
“Grandma look at these photos. The lady here looks like you as a young woman and in your wedding photos with Grand-Dad.”
“Yes, yes, that’s me. I remember when that photo was taken. It was on my twenty-first birthday, which my parents had for me in Greece,” said Grandma wistfully.
Richard and Shelly receive an invitation for the Book Launch of “Ten Steps to Being a Millionaire.”
The story behind the bestseller was that the manuscript was picked up by Shelly one day when she saw it on a sack in an alleyway. The alley was known to be the haunt for several homeless people.
Shelly picked up the manuscript and then put it through the Million Dollar Book Deal Generator. Once the program evaluated the manuscript, amended and modified the document, it was eligible for a book deal. The story was about one man’s plan to become a Millionaire, after having lived for ten years on the streets, after losing his fortune. The young man decided to work his way back into society by volunteering at a soup kitchen, where he would get his meals. He then took up odd jobs in his neighbourhood, from gardening to delivering papers. It was not long before he got a steady job in a Computer firm as a cleaner.
The mystery man, who only referred to himself as “Ambitious Me”, went from being a cleaner in the computer company to repairing computers, doing the servicing of computers, and later started his own computer software enterprise.
As a social entrepreneur, “Ambitious Me” employed the homeless and those members of society who were not given an equal opportunity in life.
Ten years had passed since “Ambitious Me” went from being homeless to becoming a millionaire. He went back to the alley he would live in to write the book which would change the lives of so many people who lost themselves in the chaos of modern society.
“Ambitious Me” had left his manuscript which was written in the alley in one month of living on the streets. He left the manuscript with the intention that it would be found by someone who wanted to change their life.
That manuscript, written on scraps of paper and board, from the litter found in the alley, was discovered by Shelly when she went to do research on the homeless in the City of London. She had now published it. A public announcement was sent out for the real “Ambitious Me” to come for the book launch.
The launch was on the tenth of September.
Everyone in the publishing industry from authors, literary agents to publishers had arrived to see the mystery author.
The mystery author was to arrive with samples of handwriting, which would be analysed by two graphologists and a computer software program to authenticate the handwriting.
The Press journalists, photographers, video bloggers, and bloggers were all present.
Richard, Shelly, and the worldwide audience were waiting to see who the real “Ambitious Me” would turn out to be.
The lights in the auditorium went off.
A minute later there was a spotlight on stage.
In the spotlight standing was the silhouette of a woman.
As the lights began to come on gradually, everyone in the room gasped in surprise.
The mysterious author of “Ten Step to Being a Millionaire”, was the highest-paid actress and nature activist Helen Jones. Helen was young and she was beautiful. She was also an entrepreneur with her own high fashion designs. Helen Jones had also recently launched her own perfume, “Jones Effect”, which was a global sensation.
“Our Guest Graphologists and our computer expert have verified the author of the book and the handwriting of Helen Jones. We can now confidently state that Helen Jones is the author of the book without a doubt,” said the elderly gentleman Master-of-Ceremonies presenting the show.
There were cheers and applause for the young woman who changed her life and who was now changing the lives of so many people with her latest book.
“Look at the agents and film producers rushing to meet Helen,” said Shelly.
“Yes, they all want to make her biopic now,” said Richard with a smile.
“At least Melville DiCaprio will not be shortlisted for the role.”
“Yes, he loves making biopics. They’d probably get someone like Teresa Witherspoon for the role.”
“She’d be perfect,” said Shelly, nodding her head and smiling.
