All good stories need to have a “hook”. It is that one opening sentence of an article, story, or post, that grabs the reader's attention and makes them want to know what happens next.
There are six types of hooks that you can use to attract and keep your reader.
The Startling statement should be unexpected.
The Musing where the writer gives his or her reflection on the piece.
The Anecdote Memoir where the writer shares a personal memory.
The Inspirational Quote inspires the reader who wants to know more.
The Rhetorical Question this is a direct question addressed to the reader.
A Shocking Statistic brings a fact to light and offers a solution.
It would be a great writing exercise to try writing a few good hooks for your next articles and stories. I would love to know how successful you have been with using hooks.
