I have seen movies where characters have been saved either by a metal canister they had in their jacket, or a small diary or prayer book they carried in their pockets. Have you had such an experience, where you were saved by someone or something in your life? I was told that I was saved by my father when as a baby I almost crawled out of an open window. My mother told me about this event, and how she alerted my father, who came behind me, silently and saved me in the nick of time.
As a writer, there are so many stories, that can be created from this incident. Like a fiction story of a superstitious man, crossing the road, to avoid a black cat crossing his path. He gets saved just in time, as a car goes out of control on the street and crashes into the wall where the pedestrian would have been walking. That black cat, crossing his path, was not a bad omen, it was a good omen, that saved the superstitious pedestrian’s life.
