Is it ethical to use AI in Creative Writing?
Do you want to stunt your creativity or enhance it?
As writers we need to do research into topics that we write about. A have so many books and ebooks in my library related to subjects that I am interested in writing about in my articles, poems and stories. I believe in having the facts before me, before I add my creative touch to the topic.
As a creative poet and fiction author, I have a hundred stories to tell the world. I am aware of the millions of ideas that are simply circling us every day of our lives. Every idea is a seed that can sprout a hundred articles, stories and poems. When I need to do research, I go to google and try to find the information I need, if I do not have a book on the subject. AI is used when we type a document in Word.
AI is taking the world by storm with ChatGPT, text and image-generators. These are all not new and they have been in stages of development over the years. We use AI when we have the auto-complete feature in our emails and when we send messages on our phones. AI has been around since 1940 and the beginning of Cybernetics, by Norbert Weiner, a pioneer in the field. AI has been developing over the last few decades and has reached a higher level of development today.

Personally, I feel that depending on AI to create research reports is perfectly fine. To use AI for research purposes for an author is perfectly okay. However, if an author is producing AI his or her creative work entirely with AI programs and claiming the work as their own, it is unethical. I love writing and creating my own work and will continue to do so for years to come. I will use AI for research and for the AI artwork that I love. I use photos taken by photographers for my articles, stories and poems, where they are given credit for the photography. I respect the work done by human artists and there is nothing like the human touch. AI art is too unreal and too perfect and lacks the soul of the human artist.
I recently saw a few of the YouTube videos of Joanna Penn and the Alliance of Independent Authors and it was interesting on the views expressed and the new AI program that is being promoted on the web. According to what I understood, they were of the opinion that as writers we should use AI to assist us with our writing as tools that we can guide and be in control of at all times.
AI is not supposed to remove the creative writer, but to enhance the quality of the work produced by a creative writer. Will creative writers be left behind in this great AI race happening in the world today? Will you sacrifice your human creativity at the altar of artificial intelligence, or will you use it for research purposes?

Thanks, Warren for sharing. I'm listening to some of the videos you sent. It's a LOT of stuff. Do you like using AI tools yourself?
