Life’s Great Odyssey
The travelling ends when we reach home
We set out on this voyage of discovery.
We plant our feet unsteadily on the earth,
As we crawl, clamber, stretch and walk,
While we learn alphabets and syllables to talk.
As young children we learn so much,
That we can fall and will not soar and fly.
Like birds that spread their large feathery wings,
We learn that wounds heal among many things.
As young people we continue on our odyssey,
To lands and places we need to know more about.
To find new people and cultures, to scream and to shout.
To tell the world that we are explorers over land and sea.
As youth we enter the bonds of friendship and marriage.
We traverse the paths and waterways of love and family.
We climb the turrets of castles to fight for what we believe in.
We rise to face challenges, we fall defeated, yet rise and grin.
As elderly wanderers, soldiers, warriors and statesmen,
We look at all we have achieved and the voyage we have made.
We hold the treasures most dear in our hearts and souls.
Knowing we have achieved most of life’s unreachable goals.
Towards the end as we sail towards the setting Sun,
We know that the voyage of life’s odyssey is not yet done.
There are new worlds and horizons, new shores to walk,
To find our family and friends, as we reach home in a new Sun.
