Reflections and Shadows, We Leave Behind
Writing Prompt: What are the shadows and reflections we leave behind?
We remember seeing our reflections in the mirrors as children and wonder, how it was possible to see a whole new world in a sheet of silvered glass. We also remember seeing our shadows moving strangely on the floor. Sometimes it seems our shadows follow us, while at times they seem to go before us, depending on the position of the Sun.
We love looking at our reflections, when we are in a cheerful mood, it just seems to make us happier. While when we view our reflections when we are depressed, it just makes us feel sadder. Our reflections follow us on so many polished surfaces, from pools of water, to shop-windows and rearview mirrors, when we are out of the house. While at home, we see our silent reflections on cutlery, mirrors, on Windows and any other polished surface we pass as we go about doing our daily chores.
Do we leave our reflections behind on all the reflective surfaces we walk past? Do we also leave our shadows behind on the surfaces, like roads, pavements and floors on which we walk? It is possible, that parents leave their shadows and reflections in the children they bring into this world. Children also display habits and resemble their parents to a certain degree. Could these resemblances and habits we have as children, which are similar to our parents, be called shadows and reflections of who they were in life?
