Jane loved watching movies. She and her husband, Adam, had a large DVD collection, it could have been about five hundred movies and box sets. They had a wide variety of movies from thrillers, to horrors, to comedies. They had been building their collection of movies for the last twenty years, since they got married and moved to their new home. Furthermore, they now had three children, and so they had a large collection of movies for the children.
Recently, there were a number of television services providing movies through their pay-channels. Jane and Adam were tempted to join one of these subscription channels. It was a lot easier, especially, when you wanted to see a film, without having to hunt for it through the large collection of physical DVDs.
Just as Jane and Adam were thinking about giving away their DVD collection to friends, to some local thrift shops or selling them online, they read the news. It was stated that it was wiser to keep the DVDs, as they were back in fashion. Stores were going to stop selling physical media. The cost of physical media, would go up in price. This was due to the fact that digital media, was being distributed everywhere. Jane and Adam’s collection were saved in the nick of time.
There is always a cycle for everything in life. Today, physical media will become obsolete, as digital media takes over the world. Five years into the future, people could be buying physical media, once again, as companies start to produce them once again. I was surprised to see records and record players being sold at a local store. Perhaps the day will come when it is possible, to have every DVD owned, converted for free as a digital file, uploaded to the web, to be watched by the whole household.
I'm in the pro-DVD camp, in case you were wondering. It saves me a lot of grief to know I have copies of the stuff I like.
