Bertie “the Fist” Fergusson, was a winner, he was one of the best boxer’s in his city. He enjoyed every moment and every second of his life. Bertram had trained as a young man to be a boxer, having been inspired by boxing legends, Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali.
It was not easy for Bertie, when he first started out as a young boxer. He faced many opponents in the ring. He was bruised and battered in so many fights over his lifetime. Bertie was proud of his scars and they were like badges of honour for him.
His, career, life and the lifestyle he enjoyed, with fast cars, gorgeous women, wealth and an island he owned as well as all the big sponsors who backed all his fights, were paradise for Bertie. He wanted it to go on forever, but he knew that such good things never last for very long.
It was on his fortieth birthday, as he was cutting his birthday cake, he got an ache in his chest, he clutched his chest to stop the pain and fell to the floor unconscious. When Bertie recovered, he was told that he had, had a cardiac arrest.
His life would have to change, he needed to slow down and give up his boxing career. Bertie’s paradise had reached an unexpected end, paradise was smashed. Two years later, he recognized talent in a young boxer and he saw his potential for greatness.
