It was on a bright and sunny day,
As the poet walked along the coast,
He saw it standing in its magnificence,
The majestic castle by the waves of the sea.
It was a work of art as anyone could see.
The waves moved gently as gently as can be,
Around that castle that stood tall beside the sea.
There were knights, steeds and pretty maidens,
There were banquet halls and lovely flower gardens.
There was magic, mystery, wizards and djinns.
The castle was a wonderful piece of art,
It was a creation straight from the heart.
That kingdom was filled with history so great,
With kings, queens and nobles of great power.
The clock chimed every passing hour.
Alas, that castle was made out of grains of golden sand,
Carefully built with a bucket, spade and small hands.
When the tide rose high and struck it with might,
The sand castle disappeared before the morning light.
A child’s imagination had set the poet’s mind alight.

Poet’s Note: This poem was inspired by “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allan Poe, a master storyteller and poet.
“It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.”
