It was just a large mound of sand and stone,
There was no structure of brick or of bone.
It was just a useless mound of moving sand,
It was motionless like a gigantic pedestal stand.
Over the centuries the winds played,
With that useless mound of sand and stone.
Over the millennia the winds carve and chisel,
Every section of that mound to their divine will.
It has been said that the winds played a part,
In creating the Sphinx with its stone-cold sand heart.
In later years the Egyptians carved the Mythical Sphinx,
A creature of legend so cunning it could also think.
Perhaps the Gods made the Sphinx in their mirth,
So that in human minds the legend would give birth.
Once the job was done, the Sphinx came alive,
It was also the day that the Gods opened their eyes.
The Sphinx wreaked havoc all over the world,
Destroying humans and dinosaurs everywhere.
The Gods opened their eyes to see the horror,
They turned the Sphinx to sand to stop the terror.
Poets Note: Scientists now say that it is possible that the fierce winds carved the Sphinx. It was long before the Egyptians touched the sand carved figures, to make them resemble the mythical Sphinx.
