The Frozen Waters Have Secrets
What lies beneath the surface?
The land was covered with sheets of snow, so white that it covered the land with blinding light, as the Sun illuminated the city, with its radiant light. Where does the land end and the sea or the lake, or the pond begin?. The children play on the snow-covered streets and parks, as the schools are closed after the heavy snowfall in the cities, towns and hamlets.
The children and couples skated on frozen waters of the lakes and ponds. Totally wild and carefree, they skated, twirled and whirled around as they made cut circles on the surface of those icy mirrors, that now served as skating rinks. What secrets do those frozen waters have in them?
The frozen pond, lake and the frozen sea, what stories have they covered and could cover in stories for writers to create? Let us brainstorm a few of these ideas as they come to mind. Who can forget a story about a young boy who fell through a frozen lake as it cracked under his weight? The large groups of soldiers chasing the enemy over the frozen lake, to find that the ice cracks beneath their weight, ending the lives of their soldiers, horses, while destroying vehicles and artillery.
What lies beneath the surface of a frozen lake, aquatic life of course? There could be other life forms, more dangerous like piranhas, deadly snakes, anacondas, or even mythical creatures like sea beasts and mermaids. Perhaps even aquatic alien creatures could be lurking in the inky depths of a frozen lake, pond or sea.
Seventeen year old Jeremy, was cycling back home, after working at the local newspaper office as a part-time newspaper delivery boy. It was difficult getting up at 3 am in the morning to leave for work an hour later to deliver newspapers in the neighbourhood. He knew the town well and he was careful to cycle around the frozen lakes in winter, when it was hard to see where the river banks ended and the lake began.
Jeremy saw the ice cracking in several places in Konahin lake. That was unusual as there was nothing heavy moving on that frozen lake. There were things, creatures coming out of that frozen lake, they were breaking out. Once these creatures were away from the vicinity of the lake they took on human forms and they looked like so many people he had seen in his town, like the teacher, the butcher, the tailor, the mayor and he was shocked to see that Kathy, the girl he had a crush on, walk out of that lake. However, that is another story waiting to be told, later, when the skies are clear and snow covers the land and the lakes are frozen like sheets of glass.
What a captivating story... Where is the ending?
