The New Year lunch was special,
The family, relatives, and friends,
They were waiting patiently for it to arrive.
Where was the New Year lunch?
Was it on the way, they wondered?
It was going to be a delicious selection,
The food was going in one direction.
The food baskets were all prepared,
Then, suddenly the lights went out,
The stoves stopped working,
She was frantic as she rushed about.
Lisa was stumped and she knew,
That the food would never get prepared,
She was sinking into a bowl of chicken stew.
Lisa phoned the families on her list,
She told them that the food would not arrive.
They were all furious and gave her the second degree,
For not delivering the New Year lunch,
As they sat grumbling around the Christmas tree.
Lisa told them that she had a surprise in store.
So, she called her friends around,
To prepare trays and trays of delicious sarnies.
The sandwiches were a huge hit,
With all the members of every family,
After they gave Lisa the second degree.
This was a different New Year spread,
Made with slices of surprises on bread.
The New Year lunch was never the same,
Perhaps, "the second degree" was to blame.
