There is a story told in the village of Serinagatam about the wolf girl. As a child, she was abandoned in the forest by her stepmother, as she had four children of her own. The stepmother found it difficult to take care of her family when her husband was killed by a crocodile.
The young Aarya, was left in the forest as a two-year-old. A mother wolf took care of her. According to the legend, the young Aarya, grew up with the wolves as her family. She could communicate with the wolves and the other animals in the forest.
It has been said that the teenage Aarya, saw a young man fishing and saved him from being eaten alive by a crocodile. The young couple fell in love and married. A year later, twins were born, Sita and Sangita. The young mother Aarya found it difficult adjusting to a home and human society. There were times when she would run into the forest to be with the animals. After a while, the wolves did not recognize her and she had to return to her husband, children and life in human civilization.
As the years flew by, Aarya’s daughters grew up, married and left the village. Aarya and he husband Vishnu lived to a ripe old age. When Vishnu passed away at eighty-four, the octogenarian Aarya, left her home one day and walked into the forest. Aarya was never seen again.
However, as the legend goes, it is said that a young girl was seen in the forest, leading packs of wolves to the mountain caves. Some believe that the aged Aarya, transformed back into a young girl and is still living her life in the enchanted forest, with her mystical powers.
