When Was the Last Time You Climbed A Tree?
Would you climb a tree and does it make a difference, if you do not climb one?
I remember climbing a tree, with a friend when I was a teenager. We would climb a lot of trees in the neighbourhood, at least the ones that were not too tall or too steep. The branches were always sturdy and they were very useful for getting a good spot on the tree. The rough and gnarly bark of a tree, made it easier to grip with our sports shoes. I do not think I ever climbed a tree barefooted, it would have been a lot easier.
The view from the top of a tree, was always special. The scene was always unique, and we had a great view over the lanes, by-lanes, the city and the neighbourhood, depending on the location of the tree. It felt like we were on a long voyage, and I was sitting in the Crow’s Nest of a pirate ship. There were times, when I felt I was like The Dark Knight looking over the city of Gotham or a superhero like Spider-Man ready to swing into web action to stop criminals. Those were the stories and fantasies that would play out in my mind as a child and teenager.
When was the last time that you climbed a tree, and would that really make a difference to you today? As an adult, I can close my eyes and think of the way I felt as a teenager, when I climbed the trees in my neighbourhood. I like the views from tall buildings as an adult. I admire the beauty of the city, the cityscape and realize that we are all so tiny, yet we are all part of this magnificent creation and that is the wonder of life and living.
Trees are ment to be climbed to the top not just for crow’s nest view but to carve initials in soft bark, the heart flames of the day. I still climb trees as landscaper to trim branches. Provide air to circulate and cull fruit to get better quality.
