Writing Prompt: The Fact Lurking Inside the Fiction
Have you ever wondered if every fictional piece was real?
There are some writers and poets who write convincing pieces of literature, that will make you pause and think for a while. Sometimes, it is the message in the piece, that is powerful, while there are occasions when the incident seems so real.
I remember reading the horror story, “The Monkey’s Paw” and wondering if it was real. The story was so well written and the build-up to the climax was just amazing. It almost made me feel that it was a true story. On the other hand, it could be true, as it was a story steeped in the supernatural.
Have you ever found such a fictional story, that made you wonder if it was a real story? The other story, that seemed to me to be one based on a real incident, was “The Gift of the Magi”, of a loving husband and wife who secretly buy Christmas gifts for one another. This story could be true and may have occurred to some couple in life.
Have you, as a writer, ever wondered if some of the fictional stories, you have read, were based on facts? It is possible that fact lurks behind the veil of great fiction. Sometimes, it is the literary skills of a writer, to write an amazing fictional story, which captures the imagination of the reader.
