Writing Prompt: What if the Past Catches Up With You?
Would you be ready for what the past offers you?
Some people dwell in the past. They love their past and they wish to return to it. This can be when they look at pictures from their past. When they think about incidents from their past. They carry the past in their hearts and minds and the depths of their souls.
Yet, some individuals do not wish to return to their past or look back fondly at that time in their lives, due to all the painful memories that they bring. For some, the best way to move forward in life is to forget. The past cannot be erased, as it is and will always be a part of who they are in life today.
What happens when the past catches up with a person? Some people have a familiar face from years gone by who comes back into their lives. They are not pleased, because that person, reminds them of an unpleasant situation in their lives, that they want to forget.
Imagine a situation where you are a criminal who has committed a crime in the past, but twenty years later, you have a new life. Then, one fine day, an unsavory character from your past, returns to your life. That person is vengeful and wants you to pay for the way you treated him in the past.
I thought of this writing prompt when I was watching the new Disney series, called “The Artful Dodger”, based on the life of the fictional character, Jack Dawkins, the famous Prince of Thieves. The Artful Dodger was a character from “Oliver Twist”, the novel by the author Charles Dickens. The series is worth watching for its storyline and its great characters, as they take the creations of Charles Dickens a step further in life.
