I was a teenager, who enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. Today, I have re-invented myself to be a writer, a storyteller, and a published author. Do I love this reinvention of myself today? Yes, I most certainly do. I could have just been a poet and a short story writer today. However, I decided to persevere, to keep writing every day or almost every day, so that I could write and publish novels comics, articles, and stories today. Not forgetting poetry, which I still enjoy composing and publishing.
I was watching the Disney series, “The Artful Dodger”, based on the fictional character Jack Dawkins, created by Charles Dickens in his novel, “Oliver Twist”. In this series spin-off, the boy is an adult and he is a surgeon in Australia. He escaped from prison as a boy and is now a well-respected man in the medical profession. His past catches up with him in the form of that dreadful mentor, Fagin. This story got me thinking about fictional characters as we find in “The Count of Monte Christo”, who is a man who reinvents himself to enact vengeance on those who had wrongfully arrested him.
Would you think about reinventing yourself in the future, like taking up a new profession in a new country? This is a great prompt for an interesting story. Why would you want to reinvent your life? Perhaps your present life is too boring or you need to escape someone or something, or you just want to experience the thrill of living a new and more exciting life, than the one you are blessed with now.
