Actually - I remember my bad teachers by name. The good teachers not so much.

I was called a great teacher some time ago by my Grade 6 students, I was so proud and happy. But then they said, 'our last english teachers these past 5 years were terrible and not qualified, we're 5 years behind', and as I stared they ducked their heads in shame.

They remembered the bad teachers, and I felt terrible. Too bad the principal when I asked about this phenomenon stuttered then raged at me, and has made my life a living hell.

We teachers remember the principals and students, good and bad. Bad ones can ruin an experience for us just as bad teachers could for students I've found.

That is very true. Bad or not so good teachers spoil the mantle worn by the Good Teachers and Guides. Thank you for your kind feedback. I am sure that you were and are a remarkable teacher.

I love my job, I love sharing my knowledge of history and languages, trouble is most principals I run into are sociopaths, or pedos. Superintendants aren’t much better.

Share your knowledge, that is your mission.

Do not bother about the other vile personalities you come across in life, they have their paths, destinies and judgement day to look forward to in this life and the next.

The only bad teacher I remember was a gym teacher who decided that anyone who was not physically perfect was not worth his time. Made life horrible for 2/3 of his students. Had some bad experiences with a few, but they were not really bad TEACHERS, just ones who were not right for me (or, in one case was for me but not for some friends). The good or just downright odd teachers are the ones who stand out the most:

1) Physics teacher who loved to make weird jokes - like "I grade on an Einsteinian curve" (i.e. a straight line), and who was starting out as a teacher when our chemistry teacher was in high school. Had a LOT of stories about the chem teacher, including the time that this physics teacher passed out a True/False test with every answer True. The (then future) chemistry teacher was the first student to finish the test, and went over it four times because he could not believe he had it right, and wound up being the third student to hand in the test.

2) Math teacher who was also a gourmet chef, and frequently would spend 1/3 of the class period ranting about current affairs, before getting down into the lesson and still covering everything he needed to. He also invited his AP class over to his house for study sessions every weekend the month before the Advance Placement tests were held.

3) English teacher who, when doing a unit on Greek Mythology, gave us a list of 7 tasks that we could choose five from. One of them was "Draw a map of Hades" - I was out sick the day she returned these projects to the class. She spent five minutes telling the class how good mine was and that she was keeping it to show future classes. NEVER told ME anything about it though - I found out the last week of class when asking another student if we ever got those projects back!

Thank you for your feedback, Charles. This will make a great post. I am pleased to know that you still remember all those teachers, who were not really BAD, but they were liked by some and disliked by some. Teachers are important and we need them.
