Do you hunt for ideas to write or do you wait for ideas to come to you?
I sometimes hunt for ideas, as I usually wait for them to come to me
There is a great search on right now and every second of every day. That is the search for good and great ideas. An idea is just an idea and it is up to the writer or poet, to make a simple idea a good or a great idea.
How do you make a simple idea a Good Idea?
In order to make a simple idea a good idea you need to look at that same idea from several perspectives. You need to have a brainstorming session, as you come up with a collection of good and not-so-great ideas. Now, go through your list of ideas and delete the ones that you feel are not good enough for your next poem, story or article. Think about your readers when deleting your ideas and keep them in mind as you delete those old played-out ideas. The ones that remain are your good ideas.
How do you make a Good Idea a Great Idea?
Every idea, whether it is good or great, starts out as a simple one. After you have prepared your list of good ideas and completed your writing work with them, keep your list aside. Come back to that “Good Ideas” list a few weeks or months later and review them once again. You will find that there is potential in those “good” ideas to become “great” ones. As you read the list with fresh eyes and new perspectives, you will find brilliant ideas coming to you. Once again delete the ones that you feel are not great and your readers will not enjoy. What remains on that list are simply “great ideas”, for you to prepare with your imagination and creativity.
Do you hunt for ideas or wait for them to come to you?
Personally, I prefer to wait for ideas to come to me. Though there are times when I “hunt” for ideas in newspapers, magazines and websites online. I like to do this as it helps me to spot a good story and a great story. It is then up to me to prepare that idea into a good or a great story.
Most of the time, I find that ideas come to me naturally, when I am doing my daily work during the day. This has come after years of looking at ordinary things around me, and trying to make stories, poems or articles based on them. Nowadays, when I see anything, I get a story in my mind that is waiting to be written. I call this the idea process and it is fascinating, to watch ordinary ideas take a life of their own, as they transform into literary pieces for readers and fellow writers to enjoy.
I usually wait on ideas - my writing is mostly spur of the moment :)
Good topic, I never wrote much except diary entries before coming to Substack. I think the stress of COVID caused some volcano inside me to erupt and the the cooling rocks that sprang forth are the ideas. I look around me, and see them. COVID was my "awakening" so maybe there were always there, but I was too blind to see.
Is it like this for anyone else? Thank-you.
